Federal Skilled Trade Class

One of the three federal immigration programmes operated under the Express Entry System is the Federal Skilled Trades (FST) programme. As with all Express Entry programmes, it only invites most competing applicants to apply for permanent resident status by using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Details of the Federal Skilled Trades Program

The Federal Trade Program is for skilled individuals who are qualified in a qualified trade and who wish to become permanent residents. If you comply with the standards for this professional profession according to the National Occupational Classification and can comply with the minimal requirement of eligibility, you can apply for the FSTP.
The main features of this programme are:
  • Get Invited by IRCC with CRS as low as 199.
  • More than 100 approved businesses and jobs.
  • Applicants must not prove their academic level in order to enter the pool.
  • Great chance to live and work in provinces like like Ontario, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

What is the processing time?

Most complete applications are processed within six months.

What are the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) requirements?

  • A total duration of at least one year OR a certificate of qualification* by a provincial, territorial or federal governing authority for a complete employment offer by a Canadian company.
  • Language skills assessed by Canadian in French or English
  • Benchmark language (CLB) or Canadian language skill levels (NCLC). (Level 4 for writing + reading and level 5 to listening + speaking)
  • At least 2 years of experience in full time during the previous 5 years
  • Able of showing that you satisfy your skilled trade criteria You must prove that, unless you have a genuine job offer or are able to work lawfully in Canada, your family and you have enough money to settle in Canada.
